Friends, God is raising up the younger generation to do great things for Him. God can move anywhere, anytime and through anyone if only we are hungry for Him. Eunice, i am so proud of you. God is doing amazing things in this nation and the nations today. If this is not the day to be conscious of God, when is? Let's avail ourselves to God and be radical for Him!

A Lesson From The Birds

Characteristics of birds in the natural can teach us spiritual lessons. There are some birds that fly at a high level and some that fly at a low level. God has called us to live at a high level and not a noob! (someone who is at a low level)

1. Sparrows - speaks of Christians who feel of little worth, insignificant. Matthew 10:29 - sparrows are sold for little, they can be found easily, they represent Christians who feel they are not worth much, small and insignificant.

2. Ravens - unclean birds, like crows, feed on dead stuff, scavengers. Speaks of uncleaness.

3. Vultures - scavengers, feed on carcasses of dead animals. Always on the lookout for dead stuff. Unclean birds, speaks of death.

4. Owls - Nocturnal birds, crafty, sly nature. "wise as an owl". Speaks of human wisdom, human ideas and plans.

5. Chimney swifts - small noisy birds that live in dark dirty chimneys. Live in large colonies. Has forked tail. Speaks of people who congregate together to gossip, slander. People with forked tongues - talebearers.

6. Hawks & falcons - Birds of prey that feed on weaker birds while flying in mid air. Will fly near prey, giving them impression that they are harmless. Speaks of hypocrites who appear nice on the outside but are actually preying on people for their own gains.

7. Dove - has a single mate for life, speaks of faithfulness. Has no gall bladder, speaks of freedom from bitterness. Has no peripheral vision, speaks of a focussed vision.

8. Eagles - Eagles are capable of seeing a rabbit from 1000 feet above over an area of 3 square miles, sharpness of their vision is 4 times better than a person with perfect eyesight. Speaks of Christians who have a clear vision for their lives. Eagles soar high and fast by using the thermal updrafts, warm rising wind currents, speaks of Christians who allow the wind of the Holy Spirit to take them higher.

Eagles are made to live in high mountaineous places. Eagles fly towards storms instead of away from them. They make use of the storms to take them higher and so there are able to fly above the storm clouds. Speaks of Christians who face and overcome difficult situations in their lives. They allow the trials to take them higher in God. Eagles have a clear membrance in their eyes that protect their vision in storms. Represents Christians who keep their vision focussed on the goal even in difficult times.

Eagles feed on live food, just like we should feed on the fresh word of God everyday. Eagles feed on snakes (represent the enemy), a picture of victory over the devil. When eagles reach a certain old age, they go through a moulting process. They tear out their feathers one by one. Knock its talons and beak against rocks to break them and then they go to a solitary place in the mountain to wait for the sun's rays to heal it. A picture of us going through a period of dealing, renewal and breaking, allowing God to heal us. God has called us to be eagles not low level birds. We are all eagles and we are made to live and to walk in high places, not go through life struggling with low level issues. Don't be a noob bird, desire to soar like a eagle!

Keep Changing the "Tags"

"Triage" is one of my favorite stories that summarizes the importance of relationships in youth ministry. It occurred during World War II. Triage was the policy by which doctors color-tagged the wounded indicating the degree of medical assistance they would be given. Red tags were placed on men who appeared to be hopeless; blue tags indicated a soldier would survive only if medical attention was given immediately; and a yellow tag meant a wounded soldier would survive even without rapid treatment. A soldier named Lou was brought in for medical review and quickly tagged with a red tag, indicating the hopeless manner of his condition. "After all," the doctor said, "his legs are so badly blown apart that life would be excruciating." But a nearby nurse, noticing that Lou was still conscious, began to talk softly with him so he would not face death alone. The moments of conversation spanned to an hour. Finally, because of the relationship that had been built between the two of them, the nurse simply could not allow Lou to die. What did she do? She replaced his red tag with a blue one, making possible the medical assistance that saved his life.

What is our calling in youth ministry? Part of it is powerfully pictured in this story. The Master Youth Pastor calls us not just to preach sermons, but to live them, in the context of close relationships with our youths. And as we see countless ones who are mortally wounded by the enemy's attacks, we have the privilege of making Christ's love real and life changing. What is relational youth ministry? It is the call to keep changing the tags one person at a time. There are lots of red-tagged teenagers. Christ's love through your life may be the only thing that truly changes the color.

The devil may have tagged you punk, hopeless, rebellious, scum of the earth, dirty, loser, good-for-nothing. The world, society, your parents, your teachers, the people around you may have done the same but I want to declare to you today that Jesus Christ is the greatest Tag-Changer. He is in the business of changing tags. Just like in the story above, you may have been tagged red but He wants to change that tag. He wants to change your tag from loser to more than a conqueror, good-for-nothing to champion, dirty to holiness unto the Lord, scum of the earth to princes and princesses! Will you allow Him to change your tag?
